Laws of Success Lesson Two: A Definite Chief Aim

Okay  as far as Napoleon Hill's Laws of Success are concerned, I feel that this chapter and the next one are most like Rhonda Byrne's book, "The Secret". According to Napoleon Hill the basis of the Definite Chief Aim revolves around the principle of what he calls Auto-Suggestion. In The Secret, Rhonda Byrne calls this principle The Law of Attraction.

If you are new to concepts of this genre the premise is simple: You are what you think. You may have also heard the Law of Attraction or Auto Suggestion being used in conjunction with Quantum Theory. Quantum Theory is a blog post in itself (maybe an entire blog). Napoleon Hill believed in the Law of Attraction so much that he stated multiple times throughout the courses that the principle was scientifically proven by top psychologists.

What is a Definite Chief Aim
When I originally read this term, I immediately thought: What is my goal in life? As I began to look at Napoleon Hill's examples, I began to realize a few key things:

1.) It's not a life's goal. The purpose of the Definite Chief Aim is to organize your thoughts and actions towards a certain purpose. A life's goal is limiting. Assuming you complete it, you are generally thinking: now what? A Definite Chief Aim is more immediate; it is your ultimate goal at the present moment.

2.) It is SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Reasonable, and Time-Based). If you've read up on the Law of Attraction, you may already be aware that it is a very picky law. Therefore, it is not enough to say "I want to be rich and famous". You have to be SMART "I want to become a well known country singer in the U.S. with 4 platinum albums within the next 10 years".

3.) It is more of a why and not a what. I think this is the secret of developing the definite chief aim and ultimately forming the foundation for your own law of attraction is to ask "why". Why do I want to be rich? So I can enjoy playing music all day without the stress of wondering where my next meal is coming from. Why do I want to be famous? So I can make even more friends and meet my role model DeWayne Johnson. Your motivation for doing things will determine your reactions to tough times.

4.) It is selfless. Napoleon Hill makes it clear that a Definite Chief Aim should never be used to harm someone else. A great Definite Chief Aim should be geared towards helping others as well as yourself.

What is the purpose of the Definite Chief Aim
1.) It is the foundation for enacting the Law of Attraction.

2.) Knowing it will focus and organize your thoughts and actions.

3.) It enables you to live life on purpose.

4.) It serves as a measuring stick that determines what is and what isn't important.

I believe lack of a Definite Chief Aim is a key reason why people fail at "The Secret". They are so focused on positive thinking, that they forget what the purpose of that positive thinking is. Organize your thoughts. Start with the mental foundation of a Definite Chief Aim and build up from there.
